I love the Keen brand and the Austin may be my best purchase yet Feb 13, 2010
By Andy Orrock I'm a big fan of the Keen brand. They simply fit my feet with little fuss or thought, and I like the style. The KEEN Boston ll Shoe - Men's and Keen MENS Truckee are two personal favorites from the past. The Austin may be my best Keen purchase yet - a perfect blend of comfort and styling.
I typically have to size-up one-half size in Keens - I'm a natural 11.5 (US) but have needed a 12 for all my previous purchases for the best fit. The Austin is different: I'm a straight-up 11.5.

Good for Miles and Miles Mar 23, 2007
By Jack Sonic I've walked miles on concrete in these shoes, and gotten no blisters or discomfort. I can't say that about my New Balance sneakers or Doc Martens. I have extremely wide and tall feet, so I have a hard time finding comfortable shoes, but these have been great. I like the way they look, too.

Supportive arch, comfortable Keen Austin shoe Dec 31, 2008
By Ann Horner I got these for my husband fro Christmas. He had worn Keen sandals previously and liked them. He is very picky about proper fit and proper arch support and his feet are very happy in these. I would recommend them especially for anyone with weak arches or anyone who stands for a large portion of the day.

I've never written a walking shoe review, and this will be the only one I ever need to do Mar 08, 2009
By SRV There is something weird about these shoes. I have a narrow heel and wide toes, impossible to fit. I've even tried custom molds. These look wide, but fit like a glove. They're the only walking shoe I've ever had that didn't require an insert for tolerating hours on pavement. Usually, I have to cut an insert or layer them. With the Keen Austin, I just use it off the shelf. Sole wears very well, I expect to get a year out of them.
So my advice is Vasque for hiking, New Balance for running, and Keen for walking.

4th pair of Austins. Quality is hit or miss. Jul 22, 2011
By C. Jumonville I've owned 4 pairs of these, and this is my second pair that is going back for warranty replacement because of a horribly annoying squeak in the heels. My black ones never squeak, but the potting soil color always does when the heel is squeezed.
Also, one of the tongues is longer than the other by almost a full inch. Odd.
I once heard them compared to clown shoes because of their odd shape.
They are quite comfy tho.
